Church Production
Work featured is from Statesboro First United Methodist Church
Major Projects:
Church Service Livestream
Weekly for nearly three years, I oversaw and directed the livestream for both Contemporary worship and Traditional Worship. I designed different systems and methods to make production simpler and work better for our volunteers and staff, as well as trained and directed a team of volunteers to direct and produce the livestream.
Student Ministry Small Group Introductions
Every week during the semester that our students had small groups, the Director of Student Ministries and I shot introduction videos for their small group lessons. These were generally shot on-location around our campus, with the occassional video shot in-studio on a backdrop.
The Complete Organ Works of Cesar Franck Recitals
I assisted Dr. Jackson Borges in filming and broadcasting a series of five separate organ recitals in Statesboro First's historic gothic sanctuary. Using a seven camera and four microphone setup, I was able to not only capture Dr. Borges' lively organ performance, but I mixed the shots to create a visually interesting production for our online viewers.
The Phantom of the Opera (1925)
I directed the technical aspects of a live organ accompaniment of the 1925 Lon Chaney silent film The Phantom of the Opera. Performed by Dr. Jackson Borges, this live performance took place at Statesboro First United Methodist Church, featuring full screen projection, full-body organ camera for both the in-person audience and the live-streamed online audience.
Carillon Bell Tower System
A digital carillon bell system was installed in the church in the 1980s, but malfunctioned due to lightning strike sometime in the late 1990s. Enthralled with the idea of repairing a unique portion of the church which has an effect on downtown Statesboro, I began researching repairing our digital Carillon system. While the original Maas-Rowe digital carillon was beyond repair, the public address speakers atop the bell tower were still operable.
Featuring live recordings of Dr. Jackson Borges, the bell tower is operable to this day- ringing at 9 am, noon, and 5 pm.
Logo Design
I was commissioned by the Board of Trustees to design a new icon logo for the church. After research and discussion, we settled on using a design found in the stained glass windows of our historic gothic sanctuary.
Building Signage
Signage is a major part of any building, both for branding and accessibility purposes. One of my tasks at Statesboro First was to create interior and exterior signage for our church.
One project that I pitched was the idea of new customizable numbered door signs for every room in the building. This proved to be an expensive project to outsource, and was subsequently declined by the trustees. Instead of outsourcing the project, I pitched the idea of creating our signage in-house using 3D Printing technology. I have produced over 70 individual signs with removable nameplates for the church.
Sanctuary Sound System
Not long after beginning work at Statesboro First, the building was struck by lightning, which destroyed parts of the sound system in our Sanctuary.
I was not only able to get a new sound system running within three weeks, I crafted it in such a way as to allow volunteers to have transferable skills between our three internal sound systems and live-stream setup.
I replaced outdated parts with new Behringer and Audinate equipment, while still preserving some unharmed portions of the existing sound system.
Dual Worship Space Streaming Setup
Live streaming two of our Sunday worship services (and other events) required a separate office space to do effectively when I arrived. Due to lack of volunteers, staff, and need for space, I redesigned the streaming infrastructure to support live-streaming from within the worship space, using a centralized computer and video encoder and network runs to both our Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall to allow our live streaming operators (often myself) the ability to multi-task both livestream and FOH audio.
While this is not considered optimal by most standards for sound and production ease of use, we found it necessary and useful in our worship production.
Dedicated Network Assisted Storage Server
A pet project of mine was to allow myself and other staff members easy access to archived files stored on various external hard drives. Using an upgraded salvaged computer, I build a NAS server which allows quick access to both archival and collaborative files.
Statesborofirst.com/update Series
As our church went through a tough time deciding how to approach the conflict within the United Methodist Church denomination, the Senior Pastor and I directed three short informational videos which were shown to the Church to help inform people on the issues and lead them toward resolution.
Identity in Christ Video Series
Collaborating with the Senior Pastor, I directed a series of testimonial videos featuring lay members as they tell their story of what it means to have their identity in Christ.
